Digital London
The purpose of Digital London is to share experiences of connecting residents using very low cost, easy-to-use platforms backed up by tailored marketing and services, and to build the business case for interactive digital television (iDTV).
On 4 May 2007 Councillor Brian Salinger, Deputy Chair of London Councils Housing Forum chaired a Digital London event Demonstrations and lessons learned were provided from 3 major London community TV projects:
DigiTV - Hillingdon www.digitv.gov.uk
RegenTV - Newham www.regentv.net
Shoreditch Digital Bridge - Hackney www.digitalbridge.org.uk
and keynote addresses from:
Simon Crine, Digitaluk – timetable and support www.digitaluk.co.uk
John Fisher, Citizens Online – opportunities for digital inclusion from the switchover www.citizensonline.org.uk
Nick Leon, Imperial College Urban Programmes - lessons from history illustrating the benefits of collaboration, systemic approaches, community engagement, compelling content, open networks and neutral operators.
Workshops considered ideas for consideration include a forum to collaborate on sharing technology, content and learning. The significance of DTV is that it extends the IT infrastructure into people’s homes. Based on that infrastructure it is possible to extend service delivery, not just to web access, but to other areas such as environmental monitoring, telemedicine and assistive technology. It could even extend to wireless infrastructure, given that Internet Protocol on mobiles is now about to become a reality.
The day concluded with an agreement to establish a Digital London forum to take these ideas forward. Attached below are presentations, project learning points, workshop outputs and a list of people who had registered an interest in the event and taking the ideas forward. If anyone would like to be included in a mailing list for future Digital London events please contact
