The second branch meeting of 2008 took place on the 1st May at the House of Lords. The meeting was sponsored by 2e2 and hosted by Lord Anthony St John of Bletso. After a short introduction by Henri Reinbolt, the chair of Socitm London, Richard Steel, out new President, gave an update on the current state of Socitm, the outcomes of the recent AGM and EGM and what lies ahead for Socitm.
The theme of the meeting was 'Unified Communications, Collaboration & Shared Services' and the presentations were kicked off by Dane Wright from LB Brent who talked about the eGovernment Register, a unique collaborative environment for UK local authorities and private sector suppliers. Dane showed how it provides up-to-date information on a
variety of e-government activities including product usage, tenders and
partnerships. It gives you immediate information from its own database
or deep links to relevant data on other websites. Maps, email alerts,
RSS feeds and downloadable spreadsheets allow customised data to be
obtained with minimal effort. An overall picture is available for any
particular authority, partnership or supplier and this information can
be used to identify potential software solutions, new customers or
shared service opportunities.
Next on the agenda was Steve Pennant of London Connects who gave an update on Capital Ambition and how London Connects will be merging with them to form a new Regional Improvement & Efficiency Partnership for London. Mark Brett followed on by giving a presentation on what can be expected tfrom the up and coming Data Handling Review. This has come as a direct result of the HMRC incident and Mark went on to discuss security issues around Shared Services.
After a break for coffee, Chris Hall from RSe Consulting gave a presentation on the Shared Services survey commissioned by Socitm and this was followed by a presentation by Ray Whitehouse from LB Havering on the collaborative work which has taken place between Havering and Barking & Dagenham on a shared Revs & Bens solution. The final presentaion was given by Nathan Marke of the sponsoring vendor, 2e2 who revisited the whole theme of the meeting, gave an interesting insight into 'Generation X vs Generation Y' and what might be in store for us in the future.
