Your London Card

With Oyster nearly ubiquitous in London, and DfT imposing a smart ITSO card for concessionary travel across the rest of the country, there has never been a better time to look at implementing a local smart card scheme.

Our recent report (see below) on the costs and business case for local authority library and leisure cards shows a positive return is possible after three years, and we're inviting all London Boroughs to put their own figures into our model. If you'd like a copy of the base spreadsheets, send an e-mail to the address below.

Our Your London Card Exec Group is now chaired by Waltham Forest and has led the way in outlining a vision for London, common standards, a joint procurement for 4k Mifare and further work on business cases and web services.

WF recently commissioned a report on the use of smart cards for school meals - available now below! The report covers possible solutions and the outline business case for enabling payment for school meals via smartcards. The work was carried out by Smartran and part funded by the Your London Card Exec Group via London Connects.

The report highlights the massive difference in uptake between the US and the UK - 80% versus 10-20%, and illustrates the benefits of completely removing cash from schools. The source spreadsheets are available on request to London boroughs.

Our report on standard web services for libraries and leisure is available below - delivered by a consortium of four smartcard organisations and through consultation with boroughs and key suppliers. The definitions here should reduce implementation costs for new card schemes and open the door for multi-borough collaboration. Note when printing that it contains an Appendix B with at least twenty pages.

Latest news: We're currently working on an Olympic related proposal for a london-wide leisure and library smartcard. On a practical note, we've also just published an update to the Card Numbering Scheme agreed by the Your London Card Exec Group - you might like to know that it clarifies the calculation of the check digit and also reserves “99” for test use.
